‘Success’ by Improving Patient Compliance!
– Ms. Kathleen Bokrossy

Imagine a world where the patient actually does their recommended home care. We know that when our patients are compliant between visits to the office they can reach optimal oral health faster. They are healthy throughout treatment, their appointments are more efficient and effective, treatment time is kept on track and we end up having a happy team because we see the positive impact we are having on their lives and their oral health.

Getting people to adopt new routines and habits can be tough but it all starts with the dental office experience. How we communicate, the tools we provide and the on-going follow-up to reinforce the importance of their self-care all play a part in getting patients sustainably compliant. We cannot control what our patients do at home, but we can have a significant influence on the importance they put on it. We can work to get our entire team on board with how we communicate, how we handle objections, and how we engage the patient so that our patient takes ownership of their own oral health. We’ll talk about a formula for success that dramatically increases the chance that we can drive patient compliance way, way up!

Participants of this course will have the opportunity to:

  • Self-assess how well your current practice is able to engage and motivate your patients to maintain their self-care routines.
  • Recognize and discuss the elements of a patient centered approach, a critical step in improving home care compliance.
  • Learn strategies to engage your patients to help them achieve optimal oral health.

I invite you to join me for this 1.5 hour presentation. My goal is that you will leave with tangible ideas on how you can improve the level of sustained engagement you are able to maintain with your patients. If that’s important to you, I look forward to your attendance and participation!

How to Care and What to Expect with a Surgical Orthodontic Patient
– Dr. Marco Caminiti

Surgical Orthodontics involves a broad umbrella of surgical procedures to help in the management of your patients. This presentation will present the different surgeries: simple extractions; complicated extractions; impacted teeth; placement of TADs; Accelerated Orthodontics and a focus on Orthognathic Surgery. The goal is for the learner to understand why the surgeries are performed by a review of the problems we need to treat (diagnosis); what exactly is involved; and importantly, what are the common side effects and the complications to anticipate. This way, you will be better armed at communicating and helping your patients that may be experiencing the after-effects of an oftentimes major surgery.

Dr. Marco F. Caminiti, BSc., DDS., MEd., Dip OMFS, FRCD(C)

Dr. Caminiti is a director of the Dentofacial Deformity Program at the University of Toronto and his practice is limited to hospital-based surgical orthodontics. He is involved in many research areas and hopes to answer some common orthodontically driven questions: Can you do orthognathic surgery with Invisalign? Is digital planning better for orthognathic surgery? How do you deal with impacted second molars? Is a bone borne appliance better for SARPE’s? Is mandible-first, double jaw surgery better? Does surgery first make sense? Are TADs and anchor plates just for complex cases? These and other advancements and controversies will be presented.
