As the holiday season approaches, it’s important to consider which treats can be damaging to your braces. As we outlined in our overall guide to foods you should avoid, anything hard, crunchy, chewy, or sticky can be potentially harmful to your braces.

Here are some common holiday desserts and candies that aren’t braces-friendly:

• Fudge
• Gingerbread
• Peanut brittle
• Popcorn
• Mixed nuts
• Candy canes – if you are prone to chewing on them

However, there are plenty of delicious treats that you can safely enjoy with braces:

• Hot chocolate
• Soft sugar cookies

• Chocolates (without hard nuts)

• Ice cream
